MineLife Media Founder Named to Women in Mining UK's 2024 "100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining"

We are thrilled to announce that MineLife Media's founder and principal, Jessica Scanlan, has been recognized in the 2024 edition of Women in Mining UK's "100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining" (WIM100).

This recognition comes as a humbling surprise, reflecting not just personal achievement but the collective impact of many voices working to transform mining industry communication.

"Being nominated for WIM100 was completely unexpected," says Scanlan. "I'm incredibly grateful to those who took time out of their busy schedules to submit a nomination."

The WIM100 publication celebrates women who demonstrate trailblazing spirit, resilience in facing challenges, and commitment to creating positive change in the mining industry.

While this recognition is an honor, it also provides an opportunity to highlight a broader truth: for every person recognized in awards like WIM100, there are hundreds more doing extraordinary work without widespread recognition. They might be implementing innovative safety protocols at remote sites, mentoring the next generation of miners, or finding creative ways to engage with local communities. The challenge isn't just acknowledging these contributions, but understanding that impact and influence take many forms.

This is where structured approaches to industry communication become crucial.

Employee advocacy programs, for instance, can transform internal experts into authentic industry storytellers. By incorporating communication skills into leadership development through programs like Geologize's "Mining Communication" course, companies can empower their teams to share their experiences and expertise confidently – if they choose to do so.

Social media then becomes not just a corporate messaging platform, but a dynamic space where diverse industry perspectives can flourish. Yet it's equally important to recognize that not everyone wants or needs to be in the spotlight.

Some of the most crucial work in our industry happens quietly, driven by professionals who are focused on doing what's right, not on gaining recognition.

"The future of mining communication isn't about perfection or polish," Scanlan notes. "It's about creating an environment where everyone can contribute in ways that feel authentic to them – whether that's through public platforms or behind-the-scenes leadership."

When we value all forms of expertise and experience – from public voices to quiet innovators – it creates meaningful change both internally and externally. Progress in our industry comes not just from those with large platforms, but from countless professionals who show up every day, solve complex challenges, and move us forward without fanfare. The path to a more transparent, inclusive, and sustainable mining industry is built on respecting and learning from all these contributions, whether they're shared widely on social media or demonstrated through consistent, impactful work on site.

The 2024 WIM100 publication continues its tradition of highlighting the wealth of female talent within the global mining industry while identifying role models for future generations. Women in Mining UK's initiative has become a living history of women's contributions to mining worldwide, showcasing the diverse perspectives and experiences that drive the industry forward.
